So if I thought the 72 hours before the flight were the hardest, I was naively mistaken. (Which explains why theres no post the first 72 hours of arriving, survival mode basically…)
Originally our flight was supposed to be at 9PM which could have been great: sleeping most of the flight, getting to the destination mostly refreshed, but no. It was a 6-hour flight at 11:40AM (awake the whole time) with a connection at 3AM. Let’s just say not sympathetic. A 4-hour layover in Delhi airport in the middle of the night did not help with Jetlag (everybody eyes wide open), but did give us some cute unprepared for moments. Like drawing together on the airport floor with Dad, playing made up games at the airport looong lines and even riding on the suitcase (its a special suitcase for kids, worth every shekel! You can ask me about it).
But the whole being-awake-all-night experience actually made me appreciate a lot. Thank god mostly no screw ups on the way (all the suitcases arrived, all the kids are in one piece), but the things that didn’t go as planned actually all were for the best! Like we go delayed by 2 guys that didn’t speak a word of English but they ended up helping us with the luggage. Or we got delayed cause i thought I lost my phone on the plane (which I almost did) but then when we finally left the plane a guy with a cart picked us up and took us to the baggage claim! The girls almost jumped for joy 🙂
When we finally arrived in Mumbai at 8am the next day (meaning we’ve basically been up 24 hours) we were all exhausted. But we pushed through a couple more hours before we crash-napped so that we wouldn’t be backwards with the time-zones. This was also for the best cause even though we could barely keep our eyes open (adults and kids alike), we got to see monkeys on Elephanta Island! And the girls we’re super excited to have been on all types of transportation: Car-airplane-cart-airplane-bus-mini bus-boat-train-train-boat. Yes, that’s what they experienced: how cool the transportation is. And it my eyes that trumps the tiredness I felt, the shock of being in a new place, the touching and staring, the overwhelming smells and colors (India is so colorful!) and of course the tiredness (did I mention that already? Oh, I wonder why 🙂
So my tired point is
We didn’t do this trip because its easy or fun for us.
We’re doing it for others,
Specifically right now for three cute others that might not remember many details, but they’ll remember the effort (I hope!)
