Routine on-route

I probably haven’t written in a while because of good things. New beginnings in a new house, a new gan, new gym… like feels like routine again.
Which is underrated.
All before the trip I was just waiting to be in vacation mode. Seeing as much as possible, doing “whatever I want” (which let’s be honest, do we ever? Or do we do what people say we should do? Or what needs to be done in disguise), ticking off seeing everything (even though sometimes that contradicts that last point..?)

But we were all craving some routine sometimes. Not because we don’t want to be moving or with our girls 24/7- on the contrary: we want what’s best for them and that might not always mean to always be together all the time..
we felt that the girls were looking for some friends (they were chatting up waitresses and dog owners on the street), some place to feel safe, do art that even I can’t do with them, learn English (any English)
and we also needed some time to do admin things without feeling the guilt of not being with our kids…
So here we are.
In an apartment for a whole month, a home to call our own. A workout almost every day, home cooked meals and even some cookies freshly baked. And admin stuff, lots of admin stuff.. health insurance, kinder admissions .. it’s somewhere between a half time job and a full time job.

And I’ve noticed I’ve become a pro at moving.

I can pack and unpack our belongings in a couples of hours, something that would take usually days. I’ve learnt what’s important and what’s important to let go. I understand better the importance of placement and feeling part of something.

Underrated things include:

Being invited to a birthday party
Having people to invite to a birthday party
Our inside the suitcase pouches for packing (amazing hack I wish I knew sooner!)
Having something green to water in the house 🪴
Your own laundry smell
Someone to call during the day so you can “pop by”
Having a place to call home

As much as I love traveling, and the pictures are just a glimpse of the amazing things we’re going through (and the tough things, which are also good and important cause we grow the most from these moments. I tell the girls constantly that hard isn’t the same as bad.)
I’ve learnt to love the “boring”, the routine. Something I knew I’d miss but didn’t know how much I’d appreciate it. How much we’d all grow from it.

This trip mixed with routine is something only a “long” vacation can produce. It’s given me a chance to not just strengthen physical muscles. We’re strengthening mental endurance, social skills, language skills and adaptive “muscles” I didn’t know I could strengthen.

But most importantly, it’s strengthened my purpose.

Even though a huge part of me wants to stay here down under and never leave the comfort, to “no war zone”, I see kind of from the “other side” how important our duty to our country is.

I can’t stop shaking the feeling of history repeating itself.

And even though technically we haven’t encountered first hand anything… threatening per se, nothing is talked about out loud. All goes about as usual.
Not many feel scared on a daily basis, at least not enough to move.
But if they were to move where would they go?
Only israel.
Home.
The only place we truely feel at home. Safe.
So we can have routine.
And the only way to feel safe is if we protect our home.

So I might have needed a trip away to appreciate home, but I finally do.

So we did the admin stuff needed and we have a return date.
It’s time to go back, to protect our routine.

To protect our home. 🏠 🇮🇱

Kids going to kinder 🙂
